  I find organized religion morally repugnant. I respect people's right to believe whatever they wish but, most religions, not all, have agenda's and are a great cause of suffering.

  I agree. My brother came up with the same conclusion, that they all have agendas. I think he's right. I notice some try to tell you how to vote, and what you should write your congressmen about. Um, WHERE in the Bible does it advocate any specific political faction? But yet Christians are primarily Conservative because it "goes hand in hand with Christianity." Bull....

  I don't think so. But even you admit that you don't know much about the Bible.

  Yeah, I don't. But you all are asking for the impossible. You're asking me to justify and more or less prove why I believe in God. How in the world am I supposed to do that? Especially when the religion is based around faith.

  If you seriously want answers, then I suggest you talk to someone more qualified than me. All I can tell you is how I believe. I do know some things about the Bible, but I can't scientifically prove everything.

  And if neither side can be proven, then why are you scoffing at my beliefs?

  Maybe I'm mis-reading everything, but I'm getting the impression that you atheists think we Christians are a bunch of dumb, irrational, un-educated hillbillies.

  Now, I know the JWs discourage college education, but you can find lots of college students from practically every other Christian group. Many of them are straight A students in fact. We're not a bunch of uneducated morons who struggled just to get through high school.

  Are you closed minded or just confident? Confidence is great, but not when it closes your mind.

  So people who believe in God = close minded. Got it...

  Okay, so I can't explain anything. I'm by no means a Bible scholar. If you people want these questions answered so bad, then ask a minister. I just believe God exists. It says in the Bible he was there in the beginning, meaning he wasn't created by anything; he was just there. If you think that makes me close minded, fine.

  I never meant to imply that I was special. And believe me, my life hasn't been perfect either. My parents have never physically abused me, but you could argue they have emotionally and psychologically. They constantly give me BS about how I shouldn't trust anyone and blah blah. As a result, I was always paranoid and never had many friends. Every time I would plan a road trip, they would come up with some stupid reason as why I shouldn't go, such as if I wrecked, my friend's parents might sue us and take away all our belongings. I brought up kids take trips all the time, but they are like "Well, that's them."

  I just meant in some cases, I felt as if God was helping me.

  Why I think the jw's are a cult and not a religion

  fortunately, it is not the case with me but this deal about parents not talking to their children who have been disfellowshipped is horrid.

  it is bad enough for those who have been disfellowshipped, but to have their own family turn on them?

  as such, i think the jw's are a cult as they separate families.

  On this site the working definition for cult is "a religion I don't like."

  It's not just this site. Virtually all non JWs think of them as a cult. I don't think so. I simply don't agree with them. I don't agree with Islam either. They put a lot of emphasis on Muhammed. Would you call them a cult? I don't agree with the Mormons. Are they a cult? Or Buddhasm. Like the JWs, it was founded by some guy who claimed to have achieved enlightenment. Are Buddhists a cult?

  What can I say? I have no life.

  Stinky - Why not? I feel as if God has been protecting me. I've gotten out of some scrapes with relatively little damage when there should have been more dire consequences. I just don't see how Earth could exist without a God. If we were any nearer or further away from the sun, we couldn't exist. If the axis wasn't titled the way it is, we couldn't exist.

  I've taken astronomy. What I learned in there only backs up my beliefs. Sorry, but all this research on scientific proof isn't enough to sway me.

  Fearing death is not a good reason to believe in life after death.

  I never said that was the reason. I believe in life after death because I believe in God. I just think if I believed there is no life after death, I would be freaked out.

  A lot of people believe in God. And they probably wouldn't change their mind no matter what. Guess you have a lot of people to ridicule. Hop to it pal.
